I SPENT 3 FREAKIN' DAYS ON THIS PICTURE! D: I DON'T EVEN SPEND 10 HOURS ON ONE PICTURE! D: I'm a fast artist << but this little booger took FOREVER D: omg I swear...my hand is still tired @-@ and yeah, this is the awesome picture I told everyone about :3 this picture has completely boosted my ego in drawing D: cuz I'm not saying it looks bad! and teachers are coming to me to look at it...to say that it's great D: my section was showing it off to the other band peoples! D: that made me happy <3 well I hope everyone else enjoys it like I do =3 I know I should've done more with the grass...but I didn't have my darker green today ;-; I don't really have the patience to work on it right now XD;;
Woah, Poo. I mean, WOAH! This is the single greatest drawing you've ever done, by far. I'm impressed by the shading, particularly on the Breloom's body. Your technique is impeccable! From the varied saturation to the shadow tones to the backlighting, and even non-local-color shading on the red parts, this in incredible. It represents a huge jump in skill for you, beyond my shading abilities and those of most artists I've seen. Really, this thing looks like it should be on a Pokemon card!
I also love the detail of the blue tree trunnks in the backdrop. They give this an otherworldly feel with its pleasantly contrasting color choices for those who aren't familiar with Pokemon, and in combination with the shiny Breloom's unusual color for those of us who are. As always, fabulous work utilizing colored outlines in your work.
One thing I would suggest to make this better to be to add a stronger shadow under the Breloom. The shading on its body is so rich and vivid and strong, but the light playing on it isn't showing hardly at all in the shadow under it. The level of light it would take to throw such strong shading on its body would cast an equally strong shadow on the ground. The shading on the ground there is also weaker than the shading on the background trees, making it look strange that way, as well.
You already pointed out that you didn't have your dark green, so I won't go into detail there other than to say that the addition of some darker colors in the grass would have added depth to that part to match the awesome depth on the Breloom and trees. Though, the differing strengths of shading between the Breloom/backdrop and the grass/ground does help to pop the Breloom forward.
Great job, Poo! This is really amazing! It's so awesome to watch you grow so much with each piece. And please do submit this to PD so I can have the honor of submitting it for the other club members to see!
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
